Wholesale price

The wholesale price is the per-unit price a supplier bills a business buyer, before labeling, handling, or shipping charges are added. It is the cost basis a retail price gets built on top of, not the landed cost of the unit.

Wholesale is not your cost

The number brands compare when they shop suppliers is the wholesale price, and it is the wrong number to compare on its own. What determines your margin is landed cost: the wholesale price plus every charge that has to happen before the unit reaches a customer. A supplier two dollars cheaper per unit with a pick fee, a pack fee, and marked-up shipping is not cheaper.

Wholesale pricing also usually moves with volume, so the price you are quoted on day one is a price for a business you do not have yet. Ask what the tiers are and where the next one starts, because that tells you what your cost curve looks like as you grow, which is more useful than the first number on the sheet.

Once you know your landed cost, the retail decision is yours, and a suggested retail price from a supplier is a reference point rather than an instruction. The per-compound numbers to build from are in the catalog of per-compound prices.

The arithmetic on one unit

Landed cost per unit here is the wholesale price of the vial, plus $1.00 to print and apply your label, plus postage at what the carrier charged. Three lines, no pick fee, no pack fee, no monthly minimum. Per-compound wholesale prices are in the catalog rather than quoted here, because they change.
